Cruising is more popular than ever right now and lots of cruisers are asking for cruise lines that are more all inclusive. These type of cruises can be a great value, and keep you from being nickeled and dimed during your cruise vacation. However, all-inclusive can mean different things to different cruise lines.
Generally speaking, all-inclusive usually means the price of a stateroom (double occupancy) includes port and tax fees, most meals, gratuities, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The most inclusive cruise lines also offer free Wi-Fi, airfare (economy, chartered or business class), all specialty dining, and shore excursions. For the most part, all-inclusive cruises are usually found on luxury or upscale cruise lines, and are priced higher because they include so much. Your incidental charges and onboard bill will be low compared to a typical cruise line. Here are five of my favorite all-inclusive cruise lines where you can enjoy your cruise without ever pulling out your wallet.
Regent Seven Seas Cruises
Regent Seven Seas Cruises is considered the most all-inclusive luxury line, and its prices are usually higher than its competitors. However, you get a lot for your money. The staterooms are large and all accommodations are suites with verandas. You'll also enjoy the multi-million dollar art collections they have put onboard their newest ships. Regent's cruise fares include nearly every cruise-related travel expense: business-class airfare on intercontinental flights (economy airfare for domestic flights), transfers between your airport or hotel and the ship, all specialty dining, valet laundry service and most shore excursions. Complimentary shore excursions are unlimited, so you can join a couple every day you’re in port. You'll also receive a complimentary premium hotel stay pre-cruise, with transfers and breakfast. Some itineraries even include two or three night land programs for free. There are a few things that are extra, such as spa and salon services, cooking classes, small group or special-interest shore excursions, and the fanciest wines and liquors.
Scenic
The 228-passenger Scenic Eclipse is the first “adventure yacht” from Scenic, known for its luxurious riverboats. Scenic Eclipse offers adventurous activities that cruisers will love. Included in the sailing is all-suite accommodations with verandas or terraces, butler service for every passenger, up to 10 dining experiences, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, an in-suite minibar restocked daily, Wi-Fi, flights, airport transfers, and gratuities both on board and on excursions. Wines, spirits, and more than 100 whiskeys are complimentary onboard throughout their nine bars. Scenic Eclipse even carries Zodiacs, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards,e-bikes, an inflatable trampoline and water skis, which are all complimentary. There are 15 onboard expedition experts that lead complimentary adventure and enrichment programs on and off the ship. If you want to pay extra, you can take a ride on the ship's six seat submarine or a ride on one of their two helicopters. Guests will love Senses Spa, which is full of complimentary offerings. You can relax on thermal loungers, use aromatherapy showers, take meditation classes, and work out in the gym or Pilates studio. You’ll only pay for one-on-one fitness sessions and spa treatments.
Seabourn
Seabourn has five elegant luxury ships. Their cruise fares include oceanfront suites with double vanities and living areas (many with private balconies), premium wines and spirits, Wi-Fi, specialty restaurants, 24-hour in-suite dining, caviar whenever you like, and gratuities. The only major add-ons to your tab are airfare and shore excursions, the fanciest wines and spirits, and spa and salon treatments. Complimentary dining on Seabourn’s ocean liners includes one dinner in The Grill by Thomas Keller, a world-famous chef. On select nights, the ship hosts clambakes and other special events where family-style platters (such as barbecued ribs) are served. Seabourn has created a Mindful Living Program in collaboration with Dr. Andrew Weil, and now offers many complimentary classes in guided meditation and yoga.
Silversea Cruises
Silversea offers two types of all-inclusive travel, Port-to-Port and Door-to-Door. Port-to-Port includes all-suite accommodations, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, butlers for all passengers, Wi-Fi, gratuities, laundry room usage and meals in most dining venues, including 24-hour room service. It also includes complimentary business-class airfare upgrades in select destinations and one complimentary shore excursion per port; the rest are available for purchase. Door-to-Door travel includes all of the above plus international economy airfare (or an air credit) and airport transfers by private executive car service. This option strives to eliminate all travel stress, with Silversea handling every detail between you walking out your front door and returning home. Silversea Suites truly are suites, with separate living and sleeping areas, some as large as 334 square feet. If you book the biggest onboard suites, you get even more freebies such as valet laundry, unlimited premium Wi-Fi, and dinner for two in the La Dame Restaurant. This ship features eight dining options that serve up fancy food (think lots of lobster and high-end cuts of beef); all but two are complimentary. Caviar and champagne are served whenever you like.
Viking
Whether you’re sailing Viking’s ocean or river cruises, or the new Viking Expeditions, this cruise line delivers many inclusions. On ocean and expedition sailings, Viking includes one complimentary shore excursion in each port, Wi-Fi, specialty restaurant dining, 24-hour room service, Thermal Suite spa access, beer, wine and soft drinks with onboard lunches and dinner, specialty coffee, tea and bottled water, and self-service launderettes. If you purchase airfare through Viking, ground transfers are also complimentary. River cruising also includes the above, except it does not offer alternative restaurant dining, Thermal Suite spa access, 24-hour room service or have self-service launderettes onboard. Cabins on Viking are a notch above what you’ll find on other premium ships. They come with upscale amenities, such as king-size beds rather than queens, and bathrooms with spacious glass-enclosed showers, heated bathroom floors, and anti-fog mirrors. The complimentary alternative dining inclusions are great too. No corners are cut for a complimentary meal and all their food is delicious.
